My goodness, it’s so hard to find a bit of time for yourself these days, but it’s so important to one’s well-being. Today’s non-stop demands on our attention can be absolutely draining. I offer a number of really relaxing treatments which also have therapeutic qualities:
Hot Stone Massage
As well as being an absolute treat, hot stone massage also has therapeutic properties. Heated, smooth, flat stones, usually made of Basalt (a type of rock that is rich in iron) so they retain heat, are placed on key points of the body. The therapist may also hold the stones and use them to massage certain areas of the body. Cool marble stones are occasionally used during a treatment, particularly if there is inflammation.
How does Hot Stone Massage work?
Placing hot stones on the body and arranging them along its energy centres helps to relax the muscles, reduces pain or discomfort and boosts the healing process. The massage following the placing of the stones can be deeper and more intense as the heat will have penetrated the body and relaxed the muscles.
